Ibn Rajab Pre-Ramadan Retreat

Angelwing presents a dynamic intensive weekend to prepare you for the blessed month of Ramadan.

The course will cover in detail the fiqh of fasting allowing participants to fully understand all the legal rulings of Ramadan. In addition, to ensure participants are able to nourish the soul during this most blessed of months, the course will also cover Imam Ibn Rajab al-Hanbali’s famous treatise, Bughyatul Insan fi Wazaaif al-Ramadan (Obligations of Man Toward the Duties of Ramadan).

  Shaykh Mohammad Akram al-Nadwi
Shaykh Mohammad Akram al-Nadwi is a graduate of the world renowned Nadwatul 'Ulama (India) where he studied and taught shari'ah. Shaykh Akram is a Muhaddith of the highest calibre who has specialised in 'Ilm ul Rijal [the study of the narrators of hadith]. He has Ijaza (licenses) from many of the most renowned scholars of our time including Shaykh Abul Hasan Ali Al-Nadwi, Shaykh Abdul-Fattah Abu Ghuddah and Shaykh Yusuf Al-Qaradawi.

Shaykh Akram has a doctorate in Arabic Language and has authored and translated over 20 titles on Fiqh, Qur'an and Hadith including his monumental 40 volume work on the lives of female scholars of Hadith and the ground breaking Fiqh book Al-Fiqh al-Islami. He is currently a research fellow at the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies, Oxford University.


Ustadh Shafi al-Rahman
Shafi al-Rahman began his Islamic studies in the UK under Shaykh Abdul Qayyum with whom he studied Arabic, Fiqh, Tafseer and Aqeeda. He went on to study Arabic grammar, Hanafi Fiqh and Hadith under Shaykh Mohammad Akram Nadwi from whom he received Ijazas.

He then travelled abroad to study Shariah at the renowned Mahd al-Fath as well as with private teachers in Damascus. He is currently studying Hanafi Fiqh and Usul, Comparative Usul, Mustalah Hadith, advanced Arabic grammar, Balagha, Uloom al-Quran, and Aqeeda with notable Shuyukh in Egypt whilst also studying Shariah degree at al-Azhar.

Shafi al-Rahman holds an MSc with distinction in Addictive Behaviour and has over 15 years of professional management experience as a director and consultant in the not-for profit sector. He is a founding director of Angelwing Media and is currently translating several classical Arabic texts into English including the forthcoming Ibn Rajab al-Hanbali’s ‘Bughyat al-insan fi wazaif Ramadan.’
